Brian Hopkins Is it normal for my Sbrick to hum like a banshee?

      Brian Hopkins Port Tester:

it mainly takes place as you gently ramp up the speed. The sbrick just hums away and as you lay on the speed the hum starts to dwindle.

The hum noise comes from the motors (if you try with LEGO Power Functions Lights it should be silent). You can reduce it a bit with strong/heavy connections but the internals will always vibrate.

Jorge Pereira You are right.. I'm using right now one of my SBricks with LEGO PF Lights, tried several Duty Cycles and heard nothing but with a PF M Motor I can hear a high frequency noise with low duty cycles (when the M Motor doesn't spin).

It also happens with XL and L motor, with the XL motor is almost un-noticed. I think is still related to the link above as it only happens with motors, not with LEDs - with low Duty Cycles, internal capacitors charge and discharge pretty fast to the motor but not to the LED, the LED maximum current is ~2 mA.
Vengit also had a initial problem with the M motor because it use very high protection capacitors.  less

Brian Hopkins I wonder if they can zero out some of the buzz by raising the minimum speed of motors. Could be changed in the APP.

Jorge Pereira They can set a predefined threshold value but it changes from motor to motor (some 9V motors I've used don't even have a threshold) and it can also be different between motors of the some kind. So its difficult to preset a common value, should be left to the user.

Technicmaster0 . It depends as well on the load of the motor. As that it's probably impossible to find out whether the motor is still "blocked" or not.

I know that thier goal is to actually allow this, but i've yet to find out if it can.  I know for a fact that i can't pair a windows phone plus apple phone at the same time.

I just want a passcode implemented into the Sbrick.  I find it odd that anyone can just sink with the sbrick.   Not that it would happen, but anyone during a tournament could sink with your brick and cause havoc.

Intersting.  I had zero issues with purchasing one SBrick and I live in texas.  Sometimes there is a real wierd glitch in the purchasing and it won't scroll all the way down to United states.   Just try it again.

I currently host robotics tournaments for our district.  Our main problem is that most of our machines are cable run.  Its a nigthmare to say the least, Gears chew through wires at an astronimical pace.  Not to mention wires get unplugged while moving robots about causing kids to crumble as robots refuse to move about the playing fields.  Give me the ability to run twenty plus machines at once and i will be one crazy happy camper.  Not to mention you might keep Early from ditching lego bricks for VEX IQ robotics Bricks.    Brian D.
