Vengit knew what Android phones were like before they ever offered an Android app so to say that it is the phone manufacturers problem is nonsensical.  However, if they DIDN'T know about Android phones then they are so naive as to be unbelievable and not fit to be running any sort of business.  Do you really think that the phone manufacturers got together to make all the variations of Android just to mess up the Sbrick?  Of course not and Vengit knew what an Android app entailed before they ever offered it.  They have just not got sufficient skilled developers to deliver what they promised.
Of course the problems from the iOS side have been much less because that is what the Sbrick was designed to work with.  In my opinion Vengit offered an Android without thinking what it entailed just to ensure that there were sufficient people signing up so that they could reach their funding target.  With their target being exceeded by only approximately 30% I would suggest that...    less

However, just issuing any old rubbish that happens to be around isn't really what we all expected.  I cannot believe that this new version was actually tested before being allowed to escape.
After going through all the problems that others have experienced with multiple OTA updates, un-installing and re-installing, turning bluetooth off and back on and turning the phone off and back on I've finally - after an hour or so - got to the point where I can discover a Sbrick without having to update it.  From it's reaction to the port tester the response seems very good.  However it would be nice if the Identity LED actually turned off and on instead of being permanently on!
Finally, I get to building a control set.  The creation builds quite nicely and accepts an Sbrick without requiring an update and accepts a standard profile.  Great!...    less

I understand exactly where you're coming from, Gabor.  I'd like the app to be proved on my device first as well.  If it works on "heavily modified systems like Samsung Galaxy devices" there is a chance that it will work on other systems.
The Kickstarter project stated that it would work on Android devices without any limitation on version being specified.  Sbricks own advertising states that it will work on Android from version 4.3 up so you are mistaken when you say that "we did not talk about Android versions here".  Android versions have been specifically stated!!!  less

The latest app 0.8 is at least different rubbish on a Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.3.
Still have the well-known freezes and crashes but it appears to connect to an Sbrick.  I say appears because there is no way of actualling testing whether it has connected.  The Port Tester has disappeared and it is impossible to add any Profile to a creation.
There is a chance that it properly downloads both public and personal profiles but as these can't be used at all I have no way of knowing!
You say that this app has been tested on a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini.  Could I make a radical suggestion and ask that you test it on other Android devices as well?  Sbrick have previously claimed that the problem is caused by the vast number of different variations of Android that are about.  I have already suggested that if a single app is beyond the capabilities of your developers you should make separate variations for differing versions of Android....    less

Devs have months to do at least some basic functions working, like ligths. If I go in your sens, until when will we wait? There is no communication from devs! Just as we are complaining about this incredible situation, Vengit replies on this topic that we'll have all our answer until the end of this month. What would it be if we were not complaining? We would wait until Xmas? 2 monthes are largely enough to make (and at least debug) basic functions working!!!!!!

Agree completely, Sylvain.  Is Gabor offering to lend iPads to all frustrated users?  Probably not but perhaps Vengit should?

The last version that would even find an Sbrick for a Samsung S3 running Android 4.3 was V0.26 (which had a number of other problems)and every version since then has totally failed on this primary task.
If this simple task is beyond the capabilities of the team PLEASE, PLEASE make the app Open Source.  I'm sure that there someone out there who can complete the task where Sbrick consistently fail.  less

Thank you so much for your research.
I understand what you are saying about the Samsung Galaxy S3.  This would appear to give an explanation ..... except for one significant fact.  Sbrick v0.26 works after a fashion.
I took your suggestion and replaced v0.41 with v0.26.  With this I can discover Sbricks and using the port tester I can use each port.  However, there are numerous problems with profiles that don't work, inability to assign multiple Sbricks to a profile, extremely slow response, etc., etc.
However, the point is a Samsung S3 can communicate and operate a Sbrick so it cannot be a fundamental problem with the phone!  The problem is with the application.
In my opinion what needs to happen is for the developers to see what they changed after v0.26 to stop the app working and fix it. With what I expect were later mods to correct other problems with the app this should make it usable for Android users.
    Thanks again,

Making great demos is great......but you need to be able to control a Sbrick! This is something that I hoped for!
On 30 January Lenard promised a "big release" including an update to the Android app for 2nd February.  Never happened...no reason given.
It appears that the people who have done the great demonstrations (something that sold me on the Sbrick) are a privileged few and, as far as I can tell, involved an Apple device.  Perhaps the solution is for Vengit to give all those who have reported Android problems an iPhone so we can contribute our own demos!

    - having a PC (and easily MAC/Linux if using portable language) to generate profiles that can be loaded by app is faster. And if done in HTML5 for example its possible that one would be able to use even mobile browser.
    - this would also eliminate the need to create the editing engine for each platform - as you can see, we (as android users) still don't have the functionality that iOS guys have even after 3-4 months. I do not want to way to Xmass  2015 to be able to customize profiles while iOS guys will be happy to do so half a year before us (I understand Apple-first approach when the app generates money, but as part of HW product that I paid for, I really, really hate it)

    Dear testers and hackers,

I hereby describe how you can "talk" to the SBrick. With the help of this description you'll be able to build your own application that can control an SBrick.

Since SBrick works over Bluetooth Low Energy / Bluetooth 4.0 or BLE for short, you will need a device that speaks BLE.

For the PC or an USB-capable embedded hardware we recommend using BlueGiga's BLED112 BLE dongle. Bluegiga is the same manufacturer who supplies the BLE modules for us, so compatiblitiy is guaranteed with them. Also, this is the same dongle we will potentially use as the solution for our users with smartphones without BLE but with OTG capability.

First, you need to learn a few basics about the BLE...    less

Erik, Vengit knew what Android phones were like before they ever offered an Android app so to say that it is the phone manufacturers problem is nonsensical. As to your legal action comment, if you read it again you will see that I specifically excluded any action by Kickstarter members, myself included.  However, when the project goes live any later purchaser may have no knowledge that this was originally financed by a Kickstarter subscription.  They have just bought a product that was specified to work with any Android device from version 4.3 on.  This is what they are entitled to receive. "Be patient, it'll work very soon." Having gone through every version where this was promised I am beginning to doubt it, unless your definition of "very soon" is in the next year, Regards,  Norman This post was edited by Norman Chalcraft at April 5, 2015 10:29 PM CEST

Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.3. Congratualtions to Sbrick for actually issuing an update when they said they would.  Well done!! Great!  All I need to do now is to save it.  To do this it would be nice to be offered that option but no matter where I look there is no option to save a creation.  The consequence of this is that I can either edit the creation or delete it but actually use it.....no chance. I'm in the unfortunate position of being an early Kickstarter backer and thus accept that if I subscribe to absolute rubbish it's my own fault.  If I'd purchased my Sbricks after the Kickstarter campaign I'd be looking at legal action for a refund and expenses.  With Vengit being based in London and with the UK's  Consumer Protection Laws the advice I've been given is that it'd be a bit of an open and shut case as no defence appears possible. Come on Vengit - either publish a working Android app or finally admit that an Android application is beyond you and start arranging for refunds!

Gábor Polczer said: I'd rather say that devs should test new app versions on a pure Android device like a Nexus, not on heavily modified systems like Samsung Galaxy devices! And when it's ok on a Nexus, there is a chance that it will be ok on other modified systems! And we did not talk about Android versions here, a 4.3 or 4.4.2 system can not be compared with vanilla 5.01 or  the upcoming 5.1...

Another month, another broken promise!! I have already suggested that if a single app is beyond the capabilities of your developers you should make separate variations for differing versions of Android.  However, I now see no future in this approach if you are only ever going to test on a single Android device. Continual promises of fixes that do not materialise only undermines the little confidence that is left that Sbrick will ever provide what they have claimed from the very first - an Application that will work on any Android device from version 4.3 on.  I do get the feeling that this claim for an Android app was only made in Kickstarter to increase the chances of reaching the funding target with no real commitment to creating this app.  Why don't you prove me wrong, Sbrick, and come up with a working solution AS YOU HAVE PROMISED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS! I'm inclined to wait a further few days for this but, after that, I'm fairly certain that my 2 Sbricks will find their way into the "I've thrown my money away" receptacle!
