I think it's time that someone of the SBrick guys take care about your problem, they should be able to explain if its possible to implement both protocols...
I just give you an answer to your post(s) because I had the same issue than you... :-(
For me, all is working fine, exept the ratio-issue, but I can live with it.
My son is happy as hell with his lego-model...
I hope, they can help you, good luck !

It's not a "wrong" BT chip, it's more the old BT-technology, the Iphone 4S (and upwards of course) have the new chip with BT 4.0. I don't would say, that this is a bad design decision, because they had to decide to go for the old BT tech,...  more

I'm also a "daddy", and my 10 year old son plays with the sbricks (btw: with the lego model 42009) and I understand your statement, but I think, there are waaay more "adult"-players, who want to use their own phone/tablets, I think no one of those would buy a sbrick, if they don't work with the newer devices !
I have an android device for myself, and can't get to work with it, so I bought an "old" Iphone from a friend, and I checked therefore the requirements and found out that the 4S is the first Iphone with BLE/BT4.0...
So, I'm not 100% sure about your 3GS, maybe someone of the Sbrick-Team can confirm this...  less

Tamas told me on 24. Nov 2015, the ratio bug will be fixed "within a few days", so I don't believe it will be fixed until next year. :-(
However, I'm wondering, how you managed it to get it work with your 3GS, according the specs of your Iphone 3GS, it don't have BLE (Bluethooth Low Energy, also known as BT 4.0)

I don't understand what you means with "massive company", what's that for a statement ? Vengit Ltd is a company like any others, who sell a product, and the customer pay for it ! If the product is in that kind of stage, it's just way to early to bring it on the market, right ? If you go buying a car and the seller tell you:"Well, the car itself is ok, but the engine is not running properly, but we will fix it in a year...", you will buy it ?
The other point you mentioned (kick *ss), I just wrote, what will happens to myself, nothing more.
IMO, Vengit act not very professional, I asked Tamas 3 Weeks ago, for an approx. release date of the updates IOS-app, still no answer so far...not even a "Can't say it, we still have issues to fix"
    Apropos "not very professional":

Now your comments is very disturbing, because indicate that your are not involve in the development process.....so your developers are doing what they want, and that's maybe one of the reasons that this app have 1+ year old and counting and still in beta stage.....i want to repeat: ONE YEAR OLD!!! I totally agree with Denis, this is not professional !
In my case, I can't get the SBricks running with my Galaxy A5.
It was a present for my 10-year old son, he was disappointed having 8 PF-Motors, 2 SBricks and not be able to use it...
Therefore I bought an used IPhone4S. Again, spent some "not planned" money to get it working.

So far so good, I designed a profil in 3:2 Ratio, but cannot download it. Reading through this forum, I find out that I have to use 16:9 Ratio, which will sqeeze the profil to 3:2 Ratio, which looks weird. Well, it works, but whats really disapointing, is that Peter Schubert mentioned this issue in Feb 2015 (10 month ago !!!) and it's still not fixed.
Is it that difficult, to change this setting from your side ?
Any statements for this issue, guys ?
    Regards Frank
btw: checked the 4s specs @apple.com: 960/640 pixel, which is 3:2 !I understand your problem. I foward this issue to the iOS developers. Hopefully they will fix it soon.   less
